Born in Istanbul in 1984, Sevgi Ortaç is a visual and research-based artist with a background in film and photography. She has worked as a writer and photographer for film and travel magazines, directed short films, and worked as a director of photography on several documentaries and shorts. She completed her Master of Fine Arts studies on “Art and Public Space” at the Dutch Art Institute in 2010. She has recently published an artist’s book, The Monument Upside Down, that investigates local legends against the background of the urban regeneration process and forced evictions that are taking place around the historical Land Walls of Istanbul. She has co-edited the special issue of Fotoğraf Notları Magazine on urban transformation that was published by Galata Fotoğrafhanesi Fotoğraf Akademisi, where she also works as a lecturer on multimedia storytelling and contemporary art.
